Select multiple tree nodes
Overview
File Explorer can allow more than one tree node to be selected at the same time.
Use this when you need to apply the same action to several nodes.
How to select multiple nodes
- Hold the Control key.
- Click each tree node you want to select.
- Release the Control key when finished.
If you click a different node without holding Control, the previous multi-selection is cleared and the clicked node becomes the selected node.
Allowed bulk actions
When more than one node is selected, only certain actions can be used:
- Flag or unflag selected nodes
- Mark as not applicable or clear not applicable
- Delete selected nodes
- Permanently delete selected recycle bin nodes where allowed
Actions not allowed with multiple selection
Most single-node actions cannot be used when more than one node is selected. If you choose an action that is not supported, the app shows an error message.
Clear selection
Use Clear Selection to remove all selected nodes.
Tips
- Use multi-select carefully when deleting nodes.
- Check selected nodes before applying a bulk action.
- Clear the selection when you finish the bulk action.
